Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Response, Houma and New Oleans, LA
Coastal Waterways provided incident response expertise to the Planning Section of the Deepwater Horizon Incident Response Team. Services included ful-time staffng at the Houma Incident Command Center and on the New Orleans Area-wide Incident Management Team. Coastal Waterways prepared and exercised a Severe Weather Plan to evacuate over 18,000 responders and 1 million pieces of response equipment in the event of a hurricane or other severe weather. The plan also called for reconstitution of the response force with provisions for re-entry during a storm related recovery operation. Additional services included consulting on several coastal engineering projects.

EPA Required Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan for Fuel Terminal at Port Canaveral, FL
Coastal Waterways is preparing a professional engineer certified Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan for the Seaport Canaveral LLC Fuel Terminal at Port Canaveral. Coastal Waterways will examine the facility site and prepare the SPCC Plan and address "Sensitive Areas" of the Facility Response Plan (FRP) in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulation 40CFR112. The Plan will certify that the facility meets the three major elements of the regulations, specifically the operating procedures the facility implements to prevent oil spills; control measures installed to prevent a spill into adjacent waters, and countermeasures to contain, cleanup, and mitigate the effects of an oil spill that has an impact on adjacent waters.

Oil Spill Response and Cleanup - Full Scale Exercise at Port Canaveral, FL
Coastal Waterways is a member of the design team responsible for planning and executing the full scale 2009 oil spill exercise with the U.S. Coast Guard, Canaveral Port Authority, the Brevard County - Port Canaveral Oil Spill Co-operative, and the industry exercise leader, Seaport Canaveral LLC. Coastal Waterways is contracted by Seaport Canaveral to provide coastal and marine waterway environmental planning services and technical expertise in the rare event of an oil spill at the port. As a participant in the recent oil spill exercise, Coastal Waterways assisted in assessing the response to a major oil spill simulation at Port Canaveral. Responsibilities included authoring of environmental related simulation injects, Incident Command team participation and exercise evaluation. In the event of an actual oil spill, Coastal Waterways trained staff will provide immediate on-site response.
